Archdiocesan Food Service to begin bidding process for services, purchase

On Feb. 1, the Archdiocese of Chicago announced it has determined it would be more efficient and effective to retain a third-party provider to prepare and deliver pre-plate meals to Catholic schools in Chicago, Cook and Lake counties. To this end, the archdiocese is undertaking two separate requests for proposals relating to its food service program:

  • An invitation to bid to provide pre-plate meal service to Catholic schools that are currently receiving meals; and
  • A request for proposals to purchase the Food Service Professionals (FSP) preparation facility on Northwest Highway in Chicago.

The archdiocese has provided pre-plate food service to its elementary schools for more than 40 years. Since 1983, the meals have been prepared at, and delivered from, its food preparation facility located at 5150 N. Northwest Hwy., in Chicago.

John Koubek, president and director of FSP said, “We believe there are a number of companies that will be interested in providing this service, although we will not know for sure which one will be selected until May or June. We will continue to provide office and field-based support services going forward.”

It is the archdiocese’s desire to retain employment for as many of its current staff as possible. As part of the bid requests, bidders are being required to submit a plan regarding their hiring intentions for existing food service staff.
