Fr. J. Edward Duggan

PASTOR EMERITUS

Father J. Edward Duggan, pastor emeritus of St. John Brebeuf Parish in Niles, died Sept. 7. He was 85 years old and was living at Holy Family Villa in Palos Park.

A Chicago native, Father Duggan went to St. Catherine of Siena in Oak Park before attending Fenwick High School his freshman year and graduating from Q u i g l e y Preparatory Seminary. He graduated from the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary and was ordained in 1950.

After his first assignment as assistant pastor at St. Columbanus, Father Duggan taught at Quigley Preparatory Seminary (1952-1958) before being named assistant superintendent of the Archdiocesan School Board, where he served until 1963. From 1963-66 he served as director of vocations, and was the secretary of vocations and secretary for seminarians from 1966 until 1974. He was the executive secretary for the Office of Conciliation and Arbitration from 1972 until 1975.

Father Duggan was pastor of St. John Brebeuf in Niles (1974-86) and was assistant pastor at St. Bartholomew (1986-94).

Father Duggan is survived by his sister, Mary Philbin.

Fr. Edward C. Dufficy

TEACHER, PASTOR

Father Edward C. Dufficy, a former seminary professor and pastor, died Sept. 14. He was 86.

Father Dufficy was a Chicago native and a graduate of Visitation, Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary and the University of St. Mary of the Lake/ Mundelein Seminary. Following his ordination in 1950, he served briefly as assistant pastor of St. Francis Borgia Parish.

From 1951 to 1959, he was a professor and spiritual director at Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary.

He served as assistant pastor at St. Angela (1959-64), then as assistant administrator and assistant pastor at Immaculate Conception, North Park Avenue (1964-66) and assistant pastor at St. Athanasius, Evanston (1966-68). From 1968 to 1984, Father Dufficy served first as administrator and then pastor of St. Frances Cabrini Parish. In November 1984, he was named pastor of Our Lady of the Angels Parish, and in 1986, he took on added duties as the pastor of St. Francis of Assisi.

He was pastor of both parishes until June of 1989, when he retired.

Sr. Anna Margaret Rohr

HOMEMAKER, TEACHER

School Sister of St. Francis Anna Margaret Rohr, 93, died Aug. 26 in Campbellsport, Wis.

A Kansas native, she was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis in 1935 and made final vows in 1943.

In the Archdiocese of Chicago she served as a homemaker at St. Martin ( 1 9 4 0 – 4 2 ) , Blessed Agnes (1943–44 and 1954–55) and Our Lady of Good Counsel (1944–46). She also taught at St. James, Arlington Heights (1956–61).

Sister Anna Margaret is survived by a brother and sister.

Sr. Clothaire Kosch

EDUCATOR, PRINCIPAL

School Sister of St. Francis Clothaire Kosch, 91, died Aug. 29 in Campbellsport, Wis.

A Nebraska native, she was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis in 1937 and made final vows in 1945.

In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sister Clothaire taught at St. Joseph, Wilmette (1947-64); taught at St. Maurice School (1964- 70) and served as principal there (1970-1982); taught at St. Matthias School (1983-93), served as tutor there (1993-98) and continued to reside there (1998-2005).

Sister Clothaire is survived by a brother, John, and sisters Imogene Perkins and Catherine Dalton.

Sr. Margaret Ann McNamara

DEACON FORMATION DIRECTOR

Providence Sister Margaret Ann (Marie Nicholas) McNamara, 75, died Sept. 1 in St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind.

A Chicago native, she graduated from St. Mel School and Providence High School. She entered the Sisters of Providence in 1955 and professed final vows in 1963.

In the Archdiocese of Chicago, she served at St. Agnes (1969-73); the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (1973- 83); as coprovincial/provincial, St. Joseph Province, Park Ridge (1983-91); director of deacon formation (1994-96); and general councilor, 1996-2001.

She is survived by a brother, James McNamara.

Sr. Grace Stewart

TEACHER

Providence Sister Grace (Mary Elizabeth) Stewart, 96, died Sept. 1.

An Indiana native, Sister Grace entered the congregation in 1929 and professed final vows in 1937.

In the Archdiocese of Chicago, she taught at Our Lady of Mercy (1932-36) Our Lady of Sorrows (1936-37) and St. Leo (1942-44).
