Deacon Robert Monica

CLASS OF 1993

Deacon Robert Monica, 79, died in his apartment and was found June 18. His funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church July 31.

Deacon Monica was ordained in 1993 and served at St. Thomas the Apostle before retiring. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus in Madonna Della Strada Council #5574, a parish minister of care, a representative to the deanery, a volunteer with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, an usher and a member of many parish committees.

He was a Korean War veteran and did building maintenance for the University of Chicago.

Sr. Regina Megivern

BVM Sister Regina (Verna) Megivern, 84, died July 14 in Dubuque, Iowa.

An Iowa native, she entered the BVM congregation in 1944 and professed final vows on Aug. 15, 1951.

In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sister Regina taught sixth and seventh grade at Presentation School (1966-67).

She also taught in Washington and Riverside, Iowa; Wichita, Kan.; Milwaukee, Wis.; and Kansas City, Mo.

In Kansas City and Independence, Mo., she was a superior and principal and worked in pastoral ministry.

She was also a chaplain in Grand Junction, Colo. For 12 years, Sister Regina was a resident and volunteer at the Mount Carmel Motherhouse in Dubuque.

Sr. Jean Patrice Keenon

Providence Sister Jean Patrice (Margaret) Keenon, 90, died Aug. 6 in St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind. She was born on April 2, 1920 in Chicago, to Martin Ryan and Bernice Keenon and was baptized Mary Margaret.

She attended St. Edmund School in Oak Park and Providence High School and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence in 1939 from St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. She professed final vows in 1947.

She earned a master’s degree from DePaul University. Of her 71 years as a Sister of Providence, she ministered for 29 years in schools in Indiana, Illinois and North Carolina. In 1970 she returned to the motherhouse to give service in administrative positions in a variety of areas, including the central business office, the activity room and health care. Beginning in 2004 she dedicated herself totally to the ministry of prayer.

In the Archdiocese of Chicago, she served at Our Lady of Sorrows (1941-44); St. Columbkille (1958- 59); Mother Theodore Guerin High School, River Grove, (1967- 69); Providence-St. Mel High School, (1969-70); and St. Mark, Chicago, 1986-88.

Sister Jean Patrice is survived by a stepbrother, Ronald Stedman.

Sr. Ange T. Cadigan

EDUCATOR

BVM Sister Ange T. Cadigan, 92, died Aug. 7 in Dubuque, Iowa.

A California native, she entered the BVM congregation in 1936 and professed final vows in 1944.

At Holy Family School in Chicago, Sister Ange taught kindergarten in 1939; first grade from 1945-47; and was also teacher and superior from 1959-65.

She also taught elementary school in Iowa, Hawaii, Montana and California.

She is survived by a sister, M. Frances Vergano.
