Sister Helen C. McDaniel
EDUCATOR
Adrian Dominican Sister Helen C. McDaniel, 83, died March 6.
In her 63 years of religious life with the Adrian Dominican Congregation, Sister Helen spent 42 years ministering in education in Michigan, Ohio and Illinois, where she taught at Chicago’s St. Mary of Mount Carmel School from 1951-1955. She later served as a principal, school administrator and pastoral associate before becoming a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich., in 2005.
Sister Consuela Wall
EDUCATOR, ADMINISTRATOR
Dominican Sister Consuela Wall, 94, died Feb. 27.
An Evanston native, Sister Consuela entered the Dominican congregation in 1943, professing her final vows in 1946. In 66 years of service, she served at schools in Illinois, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Colorado and Iowa.
In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sister Consuela taught at St. Thomas More (1963-1965) and St. Philip the Apostle in Northfield (1970-1972). From 1965- 1970, she served as principal at St. Louis de Montfort in Oak Lawn. She later worked as the school secretary at St. Patrick in Lemont (1985-1988) and convent administrator at Trinity Convent in River Forest (1988-2000). From 2000-2007, she volunteered while living at Trinity Convent and Divine Providence Convent in Des Plaines.
Sister Agneda Lamb

Sister of Mercy Agneda Lamb, 82, died Feb. 24, in Aurora, Ill.
A Chicago native, Sister Agneda attended Immaculata High School before entering the Sisters of Mercy in 1945. She began her first teaching ministry in 1948 at St. Xavier Academy, later receiving her bachelors in education from St. Xavier College and continuing her ministry of teaching for the next 50 years.
Sister Agneda taught at St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Raymond, St. Patrick in South Chicago, St. Patrick in Seneca, St. Joseph in Libertyville, St. Joan of Arc in Evanston, Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Ita schools. She was a teacher and principal at St. Mary of the Lake from 1965-1973.
Brother Vito M. Aresto
TEACHER, GUIDANCE COUNSELOR
Marist Brother Vito M. Aresto, 62, died March 13 after a long battle with esophageal cancer.
A New York native, Brother Vito made his reception of the habit in 1966 and final profession in 1972. For 35 years, Brother Vito served at Marist High School as an English teacher, religion teacher and guidance counselor, a department he chaired at the time of his death. He was also a former vice provincial of the Marist Order.
Sister Rosalie Steinmiller
MUSIC TEACHER
Sister of Mercy Rosalie Steinmiller, 97, died on March 7 in Aurora, Ill.
Sister Rosalie entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1936 in Des Plaines at age 24, making her perpetual vows in 1942.
Sister Rosalie’s lifelong love of music drove her 53 years of ministry. She received her bachelors in music from St. Xavier College in 1953, and proceeded to teach music to children for the rest of her career. She taught at several schools in Chicago including Resurrection, St. Paul of the Cross in Park Ridge, St. Joseph in Libertyville, St. Mary of the Lake, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Lucy, St. Patrick & St. Lucy and St. Catherine- St. Lucy School in Oak Park.
Sister Mary Basil Jacobs
TEACHER, LIBRARIAN
School Sister of St. Francis Mary Basil Jacobs, 100, died March 6.
Received into the School Sisters of St. Francis in 1932, she made her final vows in 1940. She lived her religious ministry as a teacher, librarian and switchboard operator in Illinois and Wisconsin. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sister Mary Basil taught at St. Benedict in Chicago (1947 – 1960).
Sister Joachim Kaufmann
TEACHER, ADMINISTRATOR
Sister of Christian Charity Joachim Kaufmann, 74, died on March 10 at Sacred Heart Convent in Wilmette.
Born as Suzanne Kaufmann on May 6, 1935 in Detroit, Sister Joachim entered religious life in 1960, pronouncing her final vows in 1969.
After five years teaching in New Orleans, Sister Joachim returned to Chicago to serve as the order’s pre-novitiate director in 1971.
She later taught at St. Alphonsus School in Prospect Heights and Josephinum High School in Chicago before serving as coordinator of religious education at St. Theresa School in Palatine (1975- 1980).
Returning to the motherhouse in Wilmette in 1980, Sister Joachim spent the next eight years as assistant to the provincial treasurer before taking her religious service to Tucson, Ariz.
