Protecting the children
Initiative to train 25,000-plus to spot abuse
After months of laying the groundwork, Archdiocese of Chicago officials have begun a training program designed to curb sexual abuse and assure protection for children.
Smyth offers to step aside to keep Maryville open; says kids should come first
Days after state officials announced plans to pull all wards of the state from Maryville Academys main campus in Des Plaines, Father John Smyth offered to step down if the state would promise to leave the children there and begin sending more youths.

I hope youll forgive us for the cover photograph on this issue of The Catholic New World. It is admittedly, as the words concede, blatantly self-serving. Perhaps it doesnt seem all that special to you that our newspaper your Catholic newspaper can be right there on the street with the dailies and assorted other secular publications. But were pretty pumped up about it.
